Quiet evening in the Marunouchi neighborhood

After a long rest in the afternoon, during which I napped for an hour and the girls amused themselves with electronics, we ventured out for food, books and cash.  The plan had been to visit an onsen, but the girls got cold feet about being naked in a public bath, so we didn't do that.  Beneath the streets here there is a labyrinth of subway lines, restaurants and shops.  Our first mission was to get yen.  Throughout the day, I had tried various ATMs with no success.  Online I found information on Citibank ATMs in Tokyo; there is one in the maze below.  We walked around in a circuitous fashion before deciding to, once again, just try every ATM we saw.  Success on the second try!  Now we know where to go to get yen--not far at all from the bakery we discovered earlier today.  The second stop was the Marozen bookstore in Marunouchi Oazo Center, where Katya hoped to find Japanese editions of a series called The Twelve Kingdoms.  (More about that from Katya!  "Post about your own stuff!")  We couldn't find a noodle shop which had a vegetarian offering, so we went back out on the street and ate quite inexpensively and well at a little noodle shop under the train tracks.  It's only 9:15 p.m., but we will be off to bed soon.  -- Sherri

  2. It sounds like you all are getting better and better at knowing how to get around Tokyo and understanding the lay of the land. Soon you will be pros..........just about the time you have to leave for your next stop!! Isn't that always the way it is? :)
